MAFFEI: 2021 QB Draft Class Rankings

As any NFL Draft goes, we know some things, but we might not know those things, and we don't know a lot of things.  On Thursday night when NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell soaks in the "boos" in Cleveland, some "experts" predict as many as five QBs will be off the board in the first 10 picks.

To provide some context for those who don't know, four QBs were off the board before pick 11 in the 2018 draft and Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson was taken 32nd overall.  Three of those QBs have worked out so far, and you could say one is deteriorating.

I included my rankings from last year as well, so fire away on Twitter what you think about these lists, but we all know it cannot be judged honestly for a few years.

Johnny's Rankings:

1) Trevor Lawrence - Clemson

2) Kyle Trask - Florida

3) Mac Jones - Alabama

4) Justin Fields - Ohio State

  • Fields put up some great numbers and had himself an incredible college career, but there is a curse on OSU QBs

With this knowledge, it would be easy to put him even lower.  It might be hard to say that but it's                a harsh list in a harsh industry

5) Zach Wilson - BYU

  • NFL Comparison: Sam Darnold

6) Kellen Mond - Texas A&M

7) Davis Mills - Stanford

8) Trey Lance - North Dakota State

  • As hard as it is to take a chance on an OSU QB, why should a team take a chance on a QB from Carson Wentz's alma mater.  Wentz was extremely hyped up and we were told many, many, many lies about him.

9) Jamie Newman - Wake Forest (Yes, I know he transferred to Georgia)

Johnny's Draft Order Prediction:

1) Trevor Lawrence - Jacksonville

2) Zach Wilson - New York (A)

3) Mac Jones - San Francisco

  • ESPN NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay told Pardon My Take that San Francisco 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan wants Alabama QB Mac Jones, but the 49ers Personnel Department wants NDSU QB Trey Lance.  Given Shanahan's early success as both an OC and an HC, I think his bosses will defer to him.

4) Trey Lance - Atlanta

5) Justin Fields - Early to Mid Rd 1

6) Kyle Trask - Late Rd 1

  • If I'm the New England Patriots, I would trade down in Rd 1 and take him towards the end, expecting him to still be on the board while gaining another Day 2 pick.  If the 2020 Heisman finalist is still on the board for teams like Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, or even Tennessee, they should grab him.

7) Davis Mills - Late Rd 2

8) Kellen Mond - Mid Day 2

9) Jamie Newman - Mid Day 3

Johnny's 2020 QB Draft Class Pre-Draft Rankings & Order:

This year's QB class is something more unpredictable than usual, but after the first 9 picks it will probably be all set in stone for Rd 1.
