12 Days of Christmas: 7th Wish

Written by Johnny Maffei

On the 7th Day of Christmas, the sports gods gave to me: Kyrie Irving in front of a fans in Boston!

This is great timing for my third (Ridin' Pine's 7th) wish!  I've actually been planning this for over a week now, and just last night Irving drew some more unnecessary attention to himself.

I just learned what "sage" is.

According to WebMD, sage is burned to "cleanse a person or space, and to promote healing and wisdom."

I've never been a big candle person.  My mom was always scared to have a fire in the fireplace, so the only time there's a flame in the house is on someone's birthday.

Back to the point: My 3rd Christmas wish is for Kyrie to play in front of a packed house on Causeway St.  I know that's extremely unrealistic this season, so I'll boil it down to even a 10% capacity crowd.

Since Irving went against his word and failed to resign with the Boston Celtics, he hasn't played at the TD Garden in the regular season.

He also put out this message while "Bleeding Green."

Irving clearly implies that he wants his number up in the most legendary rafters in all of sports which includes:

17 NBA Titles

6 Stanley Cups

And many extremely well-deserved retired numbers including Bill Russell, Bobby Orr, Larry Bird, Ray Borque, and soon-to-be 2008 NBA Champ Kevin Garnett.

No green "11" to be seen.

Sidenote: The banners that hang in the TD garden today are not the original banners, according to TD Garden Museum tour guides.  The originals had to be replaced due to damage caused by fans and legendary HC Red Auerbach smoking, so hopefully Irving's agent forwards him a bill from Delaware North if his sage damages these ones.

On my old show at WSFR, Sas & Maff, I went at it at times with my former co-host Ryan Sarcione on how the Celtics would turn out in the 2018 NBA Playoffs, in which they lost 4-3 in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers.  My whole point was Irving was hurting the team and that would cause them not to win the East, but he ended up getting hurt, and the young C's team played better without them (not advocating for or happy about his injury).

He even said he called former teammate LeBron James for advice on solving an internal team issue.  If C's fans weren't already set over the edge, calling one of Boston's biggest rivals the last decade definitely did.

Irving has had a multitude of viral dramatic events since leaving Boston for the Brooklyn Nets.  His most recent being the "sage burning" which was clearly just a beg for attention before an IRRELEVANT preseason game.  Thursday's game was not his "return to Boston," it doesn't count until the regular season.

Just a few weeks ago Irving decided he will not fulfill his "media availability" part of his contract.  He is angry at the media and blames reporters for stirring up drama even though he's LIED to them and fans more than a few times (see above).

Irving must serve his day in court!  He must face the fans.  His Twitter bio currently says "Fear is not real." There's another lie.  He is afraid of coming back and playing in front of the most passionate fan base in the 4 major sports, and the worst part is he is getting away with it.  The next time he plays in front of Boston fans may not be until, at the earliest, next October.  By the time the 2021-'22 NBA season starts the beef will have worn off enough to where it won't affect him as vastly.

Former Celtics PG Isaiah Thomas, who was sent over to the Cavs as part of a package for Irving, is currently a free agent.  C's GM Danny Ainge should sign IT and let him shine and be positive all year while Irving complains and underperforms.

"Irving must serve his day in court!"

Boston reached the ECF again last year, but they chucked up too many 3's and never made any adjustments.

Hopefully they make some adjustments so they can get some revenge this season.  One change could include driving the ball at least one more time each game, because many of their playoff games came down to just one possession while they sometimes missed over 20 3-pointers.

Santa will be delivering Lie-rie Irving and the Nets to the parquet above North Station on Christmas Day for an Eastern Conference showdown at 5:00 p.m. on ABC.

Stay tuned for our 8th wish tomorrow as the Ridin' Pine #12DaysofChristmas series continues!
